A Bactorial Study in the Peritoneal Fluid in Perforated Peptic Ulcer



Abstract
A becterial study in the peritoneal fluid in 33 cases of surgical patients with gastric and duodenal ulcer perforation who were admitted to the Dept. of General Surgery in Chinhae Naval Hospital from January 1965 to July 1969 was presented.
Among 51 cases with peptic ulcer perforation patients, a bacteriological study was accurately determined in 33 cases.
(1) Among 33 cases of this series, 23 cases (69.7%) were duodenal ulcer perforations and 10 cases (30.3%) were gastric ulcer perforations.
(2) Positive culture was obtained in 9 cases of all 33 cases in culture determined.
(3) The majority of this series, 24 cases (72.7%) were found within 12 hours with positive culture in 4 cases (16.7%), 7 cases(21.2%) were found between 12 hours and 24 hours with positive culture in 4 cases (57.1%), and 2 cases (6.0%) were found over 24 hours with positive culture in 1 case (50.0%).
(4) The majority of organisms was Streptococcus, Staphyloccus and remainder were Candida and Areobacter group.
(5) Mortality in 33 cases was none.
